Hyperion is the tallest living tree in the world, with a recorded height of 379.3 feet. It is also one of the oldest living things on the planet. A coast redwood, Hyperion can be found in Northern California, in the state’s Redwood National and State Parks area. It was discovered as recently as August 25th, 2006, but the precise whereabouts of the tree has never been fully revealed due to concerns of possible damage to its ecosystem by human visitors. The age of Hyperion is estimated to be between 700 and 800 years, and Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor, two naturalists, were responsible for discovering it. But for natural damage it is believed that the tree could have reached a height of around 380 feet.
