Papua New Guinea is home to the world’s largest known butterfly, the Queen Alexandra’s birdwing. This endangered species can only be found in the forests of the Oro Province because any kind of trade in these butterflies is illegal.
The majestic butterfly has a wingspan that measures just over 25cm for females, as well as bodies that are 8cm long and an average weight of 12g; the males tend to be a bit smaller.
