The African Elephant is the largest living land mammal. At birth, a typical African Elephant stands about 3ft (1m) tall and weighs up to 200lb (91 kg). As an adult their height at the shoulder ranges between 8.2 to 13ft (2.5 to 4m) and they weigh between 5,000 to 14,000 lbs (2,268 to 6,350 kg). Roaming throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the rainforests of central and West Africa, these mammals consume around 300lb (136 kg) of food a day just to sustain their massive bodies.
