The mandrill is the largest monkey and the most colourful of all the primates, emitting a wonderful array of blues, reds, greens, yellows and black, depending on the animal. This colouring tends to be more prominent in dominant adult males. It tends to be found in the tropical rainforest regions of South Africa.
Like in many primate species, mandrill males are usually twice the size and weight of the females and will measure between 75cm – 95cm long, excluding the tail, and 55cm – 65cm in height to the shoulder when on all fours; they also weigh, on average, between 19kg – 37kg, although unusually large males have weighed as much as 54kg.
