Brocken Inaglory / wikicommons
This majestic, yet powerful creature is one of our closest relatives, after the chimpanzee and bonobo, sharing around 95-99% of our genetic sequence. The gorilla is native to Central Africa and is the largest member of the primate family. Within this group, there are four sub-species, although it is believed that researchers have found a fifth, and of these the Eastern Lowland Gorilla is the largest.
Male gorillas tend to be double the size and weight of the females, clocking in at an impressive 1.7m – 1.8m in height and weighing anything between 135kg – 180kg on average. They also have a huge arm span of around 2.3m – 2.6m
