A short film directed by Baz Luhrmann is recognised as the most expensive television commercial of all time, costing more than £18 million to produce. Released in 2004, ‘No. 5 the Film’ was an extended commercial for Chanel, promoting their Chanel No. 5 perfume brand.
In the advert, Australian actress Nicole Kidman is being pursued by the paparazzi. The television cut of the commercial has a 180 second running time, features outfits made by Karl Lagerfeld and has music composed by Claude Debussy. Kidman reportedly received £2 million for her appearance.
