A bronze sculpture by Alberto Giacometti, entitled ‘L’Homme au doigt‘ or ‘Man Pointing’, became the most expensive sculpture in the world after an auction in May 2015. The purchase was made by an anonymous phone bidder and the auction itself took just 12 minutes in order to reach the record price of $141.3 million.
The sculpture stands at 180cm in height and was created in 1947, before a total of six casts were made. The cast which sold at the auction in 2015 is believed to be the only one of the six to be hand-painted by Giacometti himself. It had previously been kept in the same private collection for a total of 45 years.
