First awarded in 1893, the Stanley Cup is the championship trophy awarded to the winner of the annual National Hockey League (NHL) play-off. With 24 wins, the Montreal Canadiens have lifted the trophy more times than any other team. The team first won the trophy in 1916 (the first of two wins before the NHL was the only league competing for the cup) and last won in 1993. The Montreal Canadiens have also made the finals 10 times. Henri Richards, who played centre with the team from 1955 to 1975, has won a record-breaking 11 Stanley Cups – more than any other player in NHL history.
