At a staggering 1,776 ft (541m), the One World Trade Center in New York City is the tallest building in America and the sixth tallest building in the world. The height is a deliberate symbolic choice meant to represent the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. Construction started in April 2006 and was completed July 2013 before its grand opening more than a year later on November 3rd, 2014. The 104 floor building cost around about 3.9 billion dollars to build and has 73 elevators. Previously, the Willis Tower (more commonly referred to as the Sears Tower) built in 1973 was the tallest building in America with a height of 1,451 ft (442 m). It was the tallest building in the world for 25 years until the Petronas Towers in Malaysia were built in 1998.
