Paedophryne amauensis is a type of frog found in New Guinea that is believed to be the smallest vertebrate in the world. This tiny animal is a mere 7.7 millimetres in length as an adult. It was discovered in 2009 and unlike many other frogs, it is never a tadpole when young (purportedly due to its already tiny size). Regardless of such a diminutive nature, this animal is still able to jump up to 30 times its own body length. It lives on the forest floors within New Guinea. This frog primarily eats mites and other smaller insects.
