The Peregrine falcon has the distinction of being the fastest animal in the animal kingdom. Typically able to reach speeds of over 322 kilometres per hour or 200 miles per hour, the peregrine falcon is known for it black head, blue-grey back and masterful high-speed dives. Recently speed estimates have been increasing and one was recorded flying at 389 kilometres per hour. With this kind of speed, it can travel long distances and Peregrine Falcons often traverse the globe with populations present on every major land mass except New Zealand. It speed is also utilized when hunting for smaller birds and mammals.
