Pyongyang in North Korea is home to the world’s largest stadium – the Rungrado 1st of May. Built in 1989, the stadium seats 150,000 and boasts a floor space of 207,000 m² (2.2 million ft²) across its eight stories. It stands at a height of more than 60 m (197 ft). The massive stadium currently ranks 12th on the list of the world’s largest sports venues – the other 11 venues are all automobile racing courses. Primarily used for sporting events and massive performances, it has also been speculated that the stadium has also been used for state executions.
