Standing only five feet tall, Tich Cornford was a professional cricketer who lived up to his name. Born on Christmas Day, 1900, in Sussex, Cornford was a wicket-keeper and right- handed batsman, and he played for Sussex for the whole of his career, making his debut in 1921. Cornford also played 4 times for England in 1930 against New Zealand, and he played 496 matches for Sussex up until the end of his career in 1947. Cornford retired with an impressive career record of around a thousand dismissals for Sussex and his country. With the bat, Cornford’s highest score came in 1928 when he scored 82 against Yorkshire. Tich Cornford died in Brighton, Sussex on February 6th, 1964.
